- TIMELINE
Most people get through the Pre-License course in 4-7 days. Once you complete the course and pass the pre-license final exam, you can then schedule your state exam & fingerprinting, if needed for your state.

2 - State Test
Most states use PSI to administer their proctored state exams. Be sure to schedule your test immediately after passing pre-licensing as they book up quickly. On the right-hand side of the webpage you'll see the following options. You must do all 3 in this order to schedule your test

CT DE & FL Residents can schedule their tests through Pearson VUE. Additional DE specific info can be found here. (DE does not require the completion of a pre-license course but it is highly recommended to ensure passing on the first attempt)
MA, & MD Residents can schedule their tests through Prometrics. Additional MA specific info can be found here.
3 - Fingerprinting
Most states require fingerprinting. It is recommended you complete your fingerprints as soon as you pass pre-licensing.
You DO NOT have to wait to complete your state test to do fingerprinting. You can find out how to schedule the fingerprinting at your state's Department of Insurance website.

How to get an insurance license in Alabama
Meet the general eligibility criteria
- Be at least 18 years of age.
- Must be a US citizen or have a current work authorization.
- Reside or maintain a principal place of residence in Alabama.
Complete required prelicensing education
- To satisfy the requirements for your course, you will need to pass a non-monitored Exam Prep Course Certification Exam with a 70% or greater.
- After passing the Exam Prep Course Certification Exam, you will receive an email with your Certificate of Completion which is valid for one year from the date of completion; you will need to take and pass your state exam within this timeframe.
Register and pass state licensing exam
- Make an exam reservation through the Alabama Department of Insurance.
- Bring a current form of identification (a valid driver’s license, non-driver ID, passport, military ID, or employee ID card) and a copy of your prelicensing education Certificate of Completion on exam day. The prelicensing education Certificate of Completion is valid for one year from the date of completion.
Submit fingerprints
- All applicants seeking to become licensed or who are adding a new line of authority to an existing license must have completed a fingerprint background check. Applicants should seek to get fingerprinted at least 10 days before applying for the license. Additional Information can be found on https://www.aldoi.gov/Licensing/Fingerprinting.aspx.
Apply for a License
- After successfully completing the required examination, applicants must complete an online application and pay a fee.
Print License
- After 5 days from submitting application, check the Alabama Department of Insurance website, and go to the License Search under Producers/Agents to confirm issuance of your license. Once a license is issued, you may print your license from the home page.

Register and pass state licensing exam
- Make an online reservation at www.prometric.com or by calling 800-853-5448. NOTE: You are limited to four attempts to pass an exam for a particular line of authority (LOA) within a 1-year period. After a fourth unsuccessful attempt, you must wait one year from the date of the last attempt to retake the exam.

How to get an insurance license in Florida
Meet the general eligibility criteria
- Be at least 18 years of age

- New license applicants are required to submit a notarized Citizenship Affidavit Form (GID-276-EN) attesting to either United States citizenship or lawful presence. The completed and signed form and a copy of the front of one of the secure and verifiable identification documents listed on the form must be submitted with the online license application. - Applicants must apply for licensure within 12 months from receiving a passing grade on the examination. For more information regarding obtaining a license go to www.oci.georgia.gov. After 60 days from the date of an application deficiency notice, if the application remains incomplete, the application will be closed and the applicant will forfeit the license application fee. At that time, the applicant will have to re-apply and re-submit the application fee.

- Complete Fingerprinting Registration - May 1, 2023, New Vendor. Follow the steps to register for your fingerprinting appointment. A registration for an appointment will not be approved until after you have applied for your license.

How to get an insurance license in North Carolina
- Complete required prelicensing education
- Prepare for the North Carolina State Exam by completing a pre-licensing course of study.
- To satisfy the requirements for your course, you will need to pass a Exam Prep Course Certification Exam with a 70% or greater.
- When making a licensing exam reservation, applicants will be required to present your Certificate of Completion, also called an Exam Admission Ticket, at your licensing exam. After passing the Exam Prep Course Certification Exam, you will be able to download a PDF Certificate of Completion which is valid for 90 days or 5 exam attempts (whichever comes first); you will need to take and pass your state exam within the 90-day timeframe.
- Apply for a License
- Once you have your Examination Admission, you will need to apply for your license and pay the appropriate fees at www.nipr.com. The license application is valid for 6 months. If you have not obtained your confirmation that your license has been issued within that period, you will need to reapply.
- Once you have applied for your license, you will receive an Authorization Email from Pearson VUE that will contain your NPN (National Producer Number) and other information that you need to schedule your state exam.
- You will also receive an email from NIPR. This email will contain information that you will need to schedule your fingerprinting, so make sure that you save it

- Submit fingerprints

- All first-time individual resident producer and adjuster applicants must be fingerprinted in order to become licensed
- After completing the electronic NIPR application, you will be emailed a link that allows you to print the Fingerprint Submission Packet-Releases Form. Call your local law enforcement to obtain a schedule of the days/hours for fingerprinting services; confirm that the office will do Livescan fingerprints for non-criminal reasons.
- Upon your fingerprinting appointment you must take with you the Fingerprint Submission Packet-Releases Form. Be sure to include the cover page and complete pages 1 and 3 of the packet before this appointment. You must bring a photo ID. You must have the law enforcement person sign page 2 of the packet. There may be a fee associated with this service.
- Upon completion of this crucial step, send the completed form pages 1 through 3 to the North Carolina Licensing Office at Pearson VUE via: 1) fax at 888-959-3010, 2) scan the documents and send via email to NorthCarolinaLicensingOffice@Pearson.com, or 3) Mail to: NCDOI/Pearson VUE, P.O. Box 14209, Raleigh, NC 27620.
- Your fingerprints will be sent electronically to the SBI for the state and national criminal check. The SBI will send a hard copy of the criminal record check to the North Carolina Licensing Office at Pearson VUE.
- Print license

- Once you have successfully passed all the insurance licensing exams you have applied for through NIPR, you will receive a congratulatory email with instructions on printing your license(s). Wait 48-72 hour after receiving the email notification that your application has been processed.

- Fingerprints are to be submitted through National WebCheck. Be sure to request that your results be sent directly to the Ohio Department of Insurance by the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation and Identification (BCI) and the and the Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI). Results not received directly by BCI or FBI will not be accepted.

How to get an insurance license in Utah

- Submit fingerprints
- Utah requires all resident insurance licensing candidates be fingerprinted prior to submitting a license application. Immediately after passing the exam, use the kiosk at the test center to complete your license application online via NIPR. The license application will include an FBI/BCI fingerprint fee ($13.25 FBI/$15.00 BCI) that must be paid by credit card during the online license application process. Print out your NIPR confirmation page that you will need for showing to the test center supervisor as proof you have paid the FBI/BCI fees in order to be fingerprinted.
